Red Army expelled the war against the Soviet territory by the end of the 44th year. Shortly after the fall of Budapest, the Germans held their last major offensive on the Eastern Front – in Hungary at Lake Balaton . Adventurous operation ended in failure, and almost immediately after it, Soviet troops made a dash to the capital of Austria – Vienna.

Fighting broke out in the city on April 6. The Germans had to squeeze out every quarter.
